Welcome to Crediton Parish Church Music Endowment Fund

With the support of our President, the Bishop of Crediton, the Music Endowment Fund was established as a charity in 2010 (Registered Charity Number: 1136033) to support the long tradition of music at Holy Cross, Crediton.

This tradition can be traced back to the time of the collegiate foundation which was established c1050 and included 12 vicars-choral who sang the services here. A choir school existed from 1334 until 1545. In more recent times there has been a mixed choir of children and adults.

Music at Holy Cross

The choir currently has over 40 members aged from 8 to over 80 and is open to anyone who is prepared to rise to the challenge. Many young people have gained a formative experience and training here within the Anglican tradition of church music.

The choir is led by the Director of Music and the Assistant Organist. Additionally, Holy Cross has a well-established tradition of choral and organ scholars who gain valuable experience and contribute significantly to the life and worship of the church.

The choir sing weekly at the Eucharist or Choral Evensong, travel to cathedrals to sing Evensong or the weekends services, and make tours abroad, these have included to Fulda (Germany), Dokkum (Netherlands), Sarasota, Florida (USA) and Avranches (France). The choir has also sung live and recorded services for the BBC at national and local levels, made several CDs and gives regular concerts at Holy Cross.

In addition to the choir there is an instrumental band which plays at informal services.

Endowment Fund Aims

In order to sustain a very high standard of music within worship we need regular, reliable funding.

To achieve this, we aim to raise a capital sum of at least £250,000. The interest from this sum will be used in the following ways:

  • To provide financial assistance to children in the choir or music group to pay for instrumental tuition.
  • To supplement Parochial Church Council expenditure on music staff salaries.
  • To help pay for existing or newly established choral and organ scholarships.
  • To enhance singing tuition within the choir.

We hope not only to maintain our standards but to broaden our musical range and outreach.

How can you help?

We raise our funds by putting on concerts, but also by receiving donations and legacies.

You can help us by making a one-off donation or a regular gift, either by cheque, bank transfer (bank details can be obtained by contacting us), by donating through our Just Giving page or by leaving us a legacy in your will.

If you are a UK Taxpayer, your donation will go further if you agree to us claiming gift aid on your donation. This doesn’t cost you anything extra but allows us to claim an extra 25p for every £ you’ve donated. To do this we just need your full name and address inc postcode.
